Best photo
I chose this as my best photo because it displays texture well. The photo represents simplicity and I feel that the black and white tone makes the photo feel soft or relaxing. The photo is taken at an angle to capture the rigid edges that give the photo texture. Even though the photo gives off a soft and relaxing vibe, the rigid edges symbolize that nothing is perfect and everything has its flaws or rough edges. This photo is also a representation of pattern with the markings in the leaves showing through, which I feel gives the photo character. I also took this photo as summer was changing into fall, so, for me this is a representation of the transition between seasons. If I could recreate this photo, I would work more with the contrast between the leaves and grass. I would also take this photo with a camera rather than the cell phone I took it with.

I photographed at Pierce Beach in Somerset, and my last photo is on Main Street, right down the road from Pierce Beach. In the first photo, I found a burned "play book" on the sand as I walked along the beach. I like the low point of view and the little pebbles that compliment the rest of the photo. The second photo is simple and relaxing and it displays line and shape. I like the texture of the crab visible in the third photo. The fourth photo gives off a mysterious feeling with the transition from light to darkness as you look deeper into the wooded area. The fifth photo shows lines and the law of thirds. I like the low point of view that you look up the stairs from. The last photo also displays the law of thirds.

Pinhole camera
Camera obscura is a dark box that uses sunlight to project an inverted image onto light sensitive paper inside the box. To create, expose, and process a pinhole camera image, a piece of light sensitive paper was placed inside of an Altoid container and a minuscule hole was put through the cover of the container. The camera was sealed shut with black tape so that no light could get through other than through the pinhole. The pinhole camera was placed in the front of the school, taped to a pole facing the sun so that there would be light reflecting enough to create an image. The aperture was created by poking a hole in the Altoid can. The shutter speed was created by placing tape on the hole and taking it off for three days to capture the photo, and then covering it back up after the image was captured. The focal length is the distance that the pinhole is from the light sensitive paper. I placed my camera on a traffic sign in the front of the school, facing the direction of the student parking lot. The exposure time for the cameras was the 3 days that it was left outside, projecting the image onto the light sensitive paper. The light source was the sun. After I took the camera down, the image appeared clear on the light sensitive paper, due to how tightly the camera was secured to the pole. The image had a pinkish hue to it. To process the image, I scanned the negative into the computer and emailed it to myself so I could edit it. I then used photoshop to invert the image and use channel mixer to make it black and white and make a positive version of the image. My results came out so clear and sharp, which surprised me seeing as most of the images came out blurry due to the cameras not being secured tightly enough and being blown by wind or moving on their own. If I could redo the process, I would have liked to see what the image would look like with a bluer positive rather than a greener positive.

Pinhole
I placed the pinhole at the end of my driveway, taped to my house. The pinhole was left out for 2 days. Location affected my results because there are very faint outlines of cars in the photo, because the cars were in and out of the driveway and were not there fro the entire time. I placed the pinhole in the direction of the sun so that it was exposed to as much light as possible. I didn't make any changes to my camera between images, however, this image was taken with someone else's camera because my camera was tampered with. My out of school pinhole image was sharper and was exposed to the sun longer than this photo was. I like my in school image better because it was sharper. What I like about my out of school image is that the cars are vaguely in sight because they were only there for a short period of time. If I could do it again, I would leave the camera up for a longer period of time.
